Hot pink is a bright hue popular in the internet age. The English term hot pink is actually what Germans describe as pink (other pink hues are subsumed under the more ecompassing term Rosa in the German language). Hot pink tones are used by womanist, feminist and lgbtq activist groups such as Code Pink and The Pink Bloque for its strong signaling power and its feminine assocations. To put it simply, the brightness of the hue is used to symbolize the strength of what is commonly perceived as weak, irreverent and unthreatening. The pink triangle, a gay pride symbol since the early 1970s, is also often rendered in a shade of hot pink.
