Magenta is a purplish pink color. The name originally referred to the aniline dye fuchsine or roseine, first manufactured in laboratories in France and England in 1859. The name fuchsine referred to the flower of the fuchsia plant. The color was later renamed after the 1859 Battle of Magenta, Italy where the French army defeated the Austrians and helped secure the unification of Italy. Today magenta is one of four primary colors in color printing.
